How We Got Started

          Nicole Balkenbusch, Chief Executive Officer/Founder, and her mother, Sandy Alex, Chief Manufacturing Officer, started creating matching skirts and purses while Nicole was in high school to keep up with fashion trends.  After Nicole’s friends began inquiring as to her matching sets and requesting sets for themselves, Nicole decided to start her own business and name it Cole’s Closet.  Nicole continued to manufacture these matching sets for one year before fashion trends changed.  Then, in September 2004, Nicole decided to take Cole’s Closet to the next level by establishing it as an accessory business.  Initially, Cole’s Closet offered a selection of grosgrain ribbon watches, belts, and purses, with Nicole sometimes selling the merchandise out of her car!  The business soon found its calling to specialize in purses, to which it remains committed today.  Almost two and a half years later, Cole’s Closet continues to provide exceptional custom created bags and purses while maintaining a sense of value and quality that its customers have come to expect.  Cole’s Closet continues to expand its product line today by carrying both small and large bags and purses, matching mother-daughter sets, large totes, and most recently, beach bags, diaper, and "overnight" bags.  Cole's Closet thanks all of its customers for their continuous support!
